Real Club La Moraleja · Course 1

Moraleja 1 is the course Jack Nicklaus built in Europe before anything else. It opened in 1976, and it still plays like a puzzle.

It is short by today’s standards, and that is where it catches people. Out of bounds runs along every hole but one, the lakes come in at the right moments, and the greens are small, quick and full of movement.

Two Open de España were played here. If your group enjoys a course that asks for the second shot more than the drive, this is the Moraleja to book.

Who it suits

Golfers who like to think their way round

Mid and low handicappers who enjoy placing the ball. Here a three wood or a long iron off the tee is often the smart play.

Groups who want to play the club’s original course, the one with the history and the Open de España on its honours board.

If your group hits it long and likes room off the tee, Moraleja 2 or Moraleja 3 will suit you better. We are happy to mix them over two days.

How a round here works

Monday to Thursday, booked ahead

La Moraleja is a private members’ club. Visitors play Monday to Thursday, except public holidays, and only with a tee time booked in advance.

We book it with the club and send you the confirmation in writing before you fly. Your visitor round comes with a buggy, range balls, a picnic and a welcome pack.

Bring your handicap certificate or your home club card. We check the club’s handicap requirement for your group when we book, so nobody finds out at the first tee.

Rental clubs and a driver from your hotel can be added to the same booking. The price depends on the day, the season and the size of your group, and we confirm it together with your tee time.

Location

La Moraleja, 15 minutes from the airport

Moraleja 1 sits inside La Moraleja, the leafy residential estate on the northern edge of Madrid. The clubhouse is at Paseo de la Marquesa Viuda de Aldama 50, 28109 Alcobendas.

From Puerta del Sol it is roughly 15 km, around 20 to 30 minutes by car or taxi depending on traffic, up the Castellana and out on the A-1.

Madrid-Barajas airport is about 15 minutes away, which makes it an easy first or last round of the trip.

La Moraleja 1 FAQS

Yes. The club hosted the Open de España in 1986 and 1997, both on Course 1. Howard Clark won the first, Mark James the second.

It is short, but it is not easy. The out of bounds and the small greens punish a loose shot more than the yardage suggests, and a good score here comes from the approach shots.

No. La Moraleja opens to visitors Monday to Thursday, and not on public holidays. Weekends belong to the members. If your trip includes a weekend, we put La Moraleja early in the week and fill Friday to Sunday with courses that welcome visitors every day, such as Golf Santander or Centro Nacional.

Yes. Bring your handicap certificate or your home club card. Your home federation handicap is valid, you don’t need a Spanish licence. We confirm the club’s limit for your group when we book.

Yes, and it is one of the best ways to see the club. Moraleja 1 and 2 are a few minutes apart in Alcobendas. Moraleja 3 and 4 share a clubhouse in Algete. Tell us how many rounds you want and we will suggest the pair that suits your group.
